February Wellness Note
Hello friend,
I’m officially three weeks into being a full-time employee again 😮
The past two years of building my business, becoming a yoga teacher, gigging, and a lot of trial and error, have been a magical ride. It’s also been a huge test of my nervous system in a different way than working a 9-5 was.
I remember saying to myself “I’ll never go back,” after leaving my last corporate job. And after a taste of being my own boss, having total control of my time, and getting to choose who I work with, it is not a decision I took lightly.
But truthfully, I’m not going “back.” Because I don’t believe we can ever really go backwards in life. Even if I went back to the exact same job I had before my entrepreneurial journey, it wouldn’t be the same.
Because I’m not the same.
During this time of stepping away from the rat race/hustle culture/corporate grind/whatever you want to call it 🙃, there were days when I thought, F the man! I’m doing this my own way, at my own (much slower) pace, and no one can stop me!
Then there were days where the voice in my head sounded more like, who TF do you think you are? Why do you think you can just escape the “real world”? Why do you deserve to rest so much?
Perhaps there’s room for both trains of thought to coexist. I do deserve to rest when I need to, AND I can acknowledge when I’m ready to take on more. Whether that’s building my own dream or contributing in a meaningful way towards someone else’s.
I have no idea if it’s possible (for me) to work as a full-time employee, while also keeping my wellness business/passion alive in a way that feels balanced and sustainable, ideally avoiding burnout.
It occurred to me this past week that I’m not sure if I know anyone personally who is doing this successfully. Maybe you are? Or maybe you know someone. I would love to hear from you either way 😊
My intention with this newsletter going forward is to continue exploring the thread of finding balance, from the lens of the yoga principle, Sthira Sukham Asanam, or the equilibrium between effort and ease. Learning how to oscillate between doing and simply being. Going with the flow from seasons of productivity to seasons of rest.
If this also interests you, I’d love for you to follow along.
Lots of love,
Marta
3 things supporting my balance right now:
- Reading career coach Janela Brahami’s weekly newsletter that’s helping me rethink what career means to me.
- Making yoga & meditation playlists as a way to express creativity.
- Reassessing my morning/evening routines to better reflect this current phase of life.
